Hope to visit you again Melaka

Wednesday, 17 May 2006

The sky was clear when we drove out of Melaka, unlike when we were driving into Melaka in the morning. Got a picture of the welcoming (Selamat Datang) arch , since I couldn't when we came because it was raining. I didn't see the words on the opposite side. I guess it is Safe Journey (Selamat Jalan). If I have the opportunity again to visit Malacca, I would love to stay for a few days and explore the city. From the tourist brochure, there are many places of interest in this historical city.

And also the 3 structures standing in line. I think it is special because it represented 3 different races: the Malay, the Chinese and the Portugese (who came to Malacca). I see peace and unity.

Jonker Street

An interesting walk through the Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat) - a place of antiques! Saw a lot of westerners!

Trying out some fruity srape ice (mango..........I forgot what is the other two that we ordered!) at one of the shop that sells antiques as well. Not bad! Something different from the usual ice kacang/cendol.

Clogs

As we were walking through a street, a big yellow clog caught my eye! And many other colourful ordinary clogs! Mum used that when I was a little girl but no more.

Museums

Wednesday, 17 May 2006
Malacca (Melaka), here we come! Only a day's visit for the time being! Arrived at the History Museum and Ethnography Museum. Here is Uncle Ni posing in front of it.

Nearby is the Christ Church, which I understood has been there since 1753.

A windmill opposite the road!

Trishaws offering to take you for a ride through Melaka.

Another museum building in the vicinity.

A ship in the middle of the city - a Maritime Museum.
